The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) on Monday expressed sadness over the death of former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, extending condolences to his family, the Itsekiri nation and the people of Delta State.
In a condolence statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Tochukwu Eluwa, the guild described Uduaghan’s death as a painful loss to his family, political associates and the state.
Uduaghan governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015, playing a prominent role in the state’s political and administrative development during his eight years in office.
GOMEP-NG acknowledged his place in Nigeria’s public life, noting that his contributions to Delta State’s political development would remain part of the state’s history.
The guild said the death of a public figure also provided an opportunity to reflect on the importance of public service, leadership and the responsibility of the media to preserve history through balanced and factual reporting.
“As a professional body committed to responsible journalism, the guild believes that the passing of a public figure provides an opportunity to reflect on the enduring importance of public service, leadership, and the responsibility of preserving history through balanced and factual reporting,” the statement said.
GOMEP-NG expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and the people of Delta State, praying that God would grant them the strength to bear the loss.
It also prayed for the peaceful repose of the former governor’s soul.
